The start of the semester in Olomouc is traditionally marked by waves of immigration; i.e., students relocating to their second homes in the Palacký University Olomouc dormitories. Leaving behind their homes and families however does not mean they are leaving behind care and comfort. In addition to kitchens, laundries, ironing rooms, bike rooms, and gyms, Czech and international students also have access to medical facilities inside the dormitory complex when unforeseen health problems arise.
A general practitioner’s office, dentist’s office, and gynaecologist’s office are located at the B building of the J.L. Fischer (Šmeralova 10) dormitory, where UP students in an emergency can go even without registration, although calling ahead is always advisable. In the case of longer residency in Olomouc, one can register at the general practitioner’s office MOJE AMBULANCE and at the gynaecologist’s office Amgynola as a regular patient, and registration with your previous doctor will be transferred. At present, the dentist’s office in the dormitories is not accepting new permanent patients. “We want to make our students’ stays in Olomouc as easy as possible, which is why we have arranged for the most necessary medical services to be available within the dormitory complex,” explained UP Bursar Petra Jungová.
General practitioner
The general practitioner’s office in the B building of the J.L. Fischer dormitory, via a separate entrance from the outside, is open from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm. Students at UP with urgent problems can visit the office without being registered. “If a student is not registered with us, their treatment will be considered as non-standard care, and they will remain officially in the care of their own doctor,” explained Ing. Petr Kotolan, on behalf of MOJE AMBULANCE, adding that it is always better to phone ahead by calling +420 581 074 200.

International students at Palacký University may also visit the GP’s office. “What’s important is that they have proper Czech health insurance – we cannot treat them with foreign commercial health insurance. Of course, ideally, they should come with an interpreter, or at least with someone who can translate the relevant health problem between them and the doctor,” added Kotolan.
In the case of serious, acute health problems, students are recommended to directly contact the Emergency Medical Service of University Hospital Olomouc, which is open 24/7. Only in the case of serious emergencies (impaired consciousness, impaired breathing or blood circulation, huge loss of blood, trauma) or in the case of a direct threat to human life, should one contact the emergency line (webpage only in Czech) of the Emergency Medical Rescue Service of the Olomouc Region by dialling 155.
Dentist
In case of an unexpected problem, in the B building of the J.L. Fischer dormitory one can also visit a dentist by prior telephone agreement. “As part of the effort to provide smooth treatment for registered and unregistered students alike, we really do kindly ask you to telephone us in advance,” said MDDr Karolína Večeřová, adding that in the case of acute care, the patient remains permanently registered with their own dentist, just like in any other dental emergency.
Due to capacity, at present they are unable to register any new patients for preventive care. “We are not taking any new patients at present; if interested, you can place your name on our waiting list and we will call once there is a vacancy,” the doctor added.

International students at UP can also visit the dentist in case of acute problems. “European students can take out acute health insurance from any Czech health insurer. We often get international students with travel insurance or other types of insurance, and they are surprised when they have to pay for treatment out of pocket and then negotiate with their insurer for reimbursement,” explained Dr Večeřová, adding that her office has contracts with all Czech health insurers.
Outside of office hours, acute cases can be treated at the Dental Emergency Room of University Hospital Olomouc.
Gynaecologist
Students at the dormitories also have access to a gynaecological clinic. “In case of difficulties, we can treat non-registered patients, but it is also possible to register with us for regular preventive check-ups. One can re-register with a different gynaecologist once every three months,” explained MUDr Veronika Lattová of Amgynola.

Amgynola is also able to treat international students. “With regular health insurance, they are entitled to acute care, they just need confirmation from their health insurer. Non-EU students generally have a different type of insurance where they pay for treatment in cash and then their insurer reimburses them,” added Dr Lattová.
Massage studio and psychological counselling
In addition to medical clinics, in the B building of the J.L. Fischer dormitory, students can also take advantage of the services offered by OK Massage Studio, which offers therapeutic and relaxing massages, health diagnostics, and phytotherapy (herbal therapy).
In case of psychological discomfort, visit the information page on Psychological and psychotherapeutic counselling at Palacký University.
